Perceived gain from the use of e-business information and communication technologies (ICT) represents the main driver that motivates companies to implement them. The study focuses on the perception of e-business ICT applications within companies. On the sample of 11,072 companies from 27 EU states, we have determined which of e-business ICT application the companies use and how they perceive the impact of ICT on their revenue growth. An ordinal regression and decision tree analysis have been used to identify a portfolio of e-business ICT applications. We have also proposed three hypotheses to test whether the perceived impact of ICT is influenced by the number of implemented e-business ICT applications, or by the number of procurement-orientated e- business ICT applications, or even by the number of sales-orientated ones. The research not only helps practitioners to recognize which tools are behind the positive perception regarding the impact of ICT on revenue growth, but it tries to answer the question of whether the quantity of implemented applications really improves the acknowledged influence of ICT on revenue growth

<p><em>Purpose:</em> In current economy, where ICT plays a crucial role for being competitive and effective, businesses are facing higher pressures of flexibility and efficiency than ever before. Transparency is often considered as a suitable mechanism for better market prices and more efficient market environment. Electronic business environment provides the possibility to set up more transparent environment and bring higher competitiveness and efficiency on the market. The paper analyse the impact of transparency on prices in e-procurement.</p><p><em>Methodology:</em> Reverse auctions are considered as transparent tool simulating in partial level real competition. Together, it allows to examine several levels of transparency set up in auction negotiation process. The impact of transparency on final prices was analysed on real data using relation based analysis were different situations of transparency set up is compared against achieved final price.</p><p><em>Findings:</em> Research results based on real data shows, that generally, the transparency in electronic reverse auction can lead to more negative prices agreed by purchasers as current scientific and commercial promotions.</p><p><em>Research limitation:</em> Significance of research results is limited due to still low readiness and skills of e-procurers. The validation of results is needed to realized within longer period of time and from environments with different level of e-readiness. Together, it reveal that transparency is more complex issue where the significance of transparency can reveal its sense in some specific situations on the market and negotiation.</p><p><em>Value of paper:</em> Evidenced based research reveal some controversy results which support new scientific efforts in microeconomics and socio-economic impact of ICT fields. Together, it affects real practitioners in way how to use and perceive claimed impact of reverse auction solutions.</p

Empirical Problems of Savings Calculation in Electronic Reverse Auction

The impact of reverse auction adoption has been a very important issue recently and is the subject of many studies. We are extending research results in the field of empirical studies by examining problems with reliability of methods for cost savings calculation of electronic reverse auction adoption in business processes. Reliability of savings proclamation in research studies or promotional materials is crucial for understanding real impact, benchmarking studies or comparison of several auction strategies from different auction environments. From our experience and empirical examinations, the problem for savings calculations is based on reliability and suitability of comparative or sometimes called expected price as the core factor for savings calculations when comparing with winning price. Our empirical study was based on real data from 1198 reverse auctions in Slovak commercial sector. On the base of our study, the most frequent strategy for electronic reverse auction adoption is multi-phase auction with first phase using sealed bid format. We have identified that reliability of using comparative prices as parameter for cost savings calculations vary according to different auction situations or settings and number of participants, auction volume and ratio of new participants are very sensitive for the reliability of savings calculations

Quality of Artificial Intelligence Driven Procurement Decision Making and Transactional Data Structure

Purpose: Current data driven decision making development calls for the quality assurance based on quality data structure. The paper analyses transactional data structure used in public procurement in Slovakia and the effect of data structure enhancement on prediction performance as crucial part of artificial intelligence (AI) quality assurance standard. We examine the significance of data structure enhancement and attributes transformation for prediction modelling. Methodology/Approach: The research is based on mutli-step model using stacked ensemble machine learning (ML) algorithm and simulating input space of 211 attributes transformed and aggregated according to different perspectives assessed by r2, mean absolute error (MAE) or mean square error (MSE). Findings: The results show that different performance of variable categories to prediction power. The most significant predictors were in category related to sectoral product classifications and in category related to variables aggregated for supplier, what underline the significance of structured information of all suppliers and negotiation participants in public tenders. Research Limitation/Implication: Methodology is based on big data with high complexity. Due to limited computing power, no subjects’ IDs were used as inputs. The complexity behind data and processes call for more complex simulations of all variables and their mutual interaction and interdependencies. Originality/Value of paper: The paper contributes to data science in transactional data domain and assessed the significance of different variables categories with respect to their specific added value to prediction power

Globalization supported by information and communication technologies changes rules of the competitiveness and increases the significance of information, knowledge and networking of com- panies for the regional economies. The network cooperation resulted in the business-to-business electronic marketplaces. However, as the range as w ell as the number of companies operates via e-marketplaces, the need for efficient trust-building tools has emerged. In the case of globa- lization and huge networking factors, the large number of unknown companies is real problem, although this number can bring new competitive advantage through finding better and cheaper supplier or business partner. The absence of trust building mechanisms and strategies was identi- fied within several studies and it is also the critical factor for the European initiative Digital Ecosys- tem. The paper provides the research results from the project focused on effective trust building strategies development for electronic business platforms. As trust was identified as one of the crucial electronic business adoption factors, mechanisms determining the trust building on the electronic business platforms were identified. Based on these trust building mechanism identifi- cation, the questionnaire-based analysis of its significance and minimum level was conducted and recommendations are formulated. Results shows that for the initial phase of e-marketplace project, it is needed to start with more simple services with generally high level of trust. Generally, compa- nies prefer limited trusted services for low fee or free of charge. Acceptance of comprehensive specialized solution for the fee increases by increased e-skills. According to the research, banks are most trusted institution for escrow services. On the other hand, we recommend to provide also the integration of specialized escrow service company. As the level of increased trust is higher for e-skilled companies this solution will be still more and more trusted and provide more efficient, complex and effective way of escrow service
